DashPDB is a Mac OS X Dashboard widget designed to give quick access to the RCSB Protein Data Bank. Enter a PDB code and then:

• Click "Search" to display the PDB's structure summary page in your web browser
• Click "Download PDB" to download the asymmetric unit PDB-format file of the structure (e.g. 2HLA.pdb)
• Click "Download Biological Unit" to download the primary biological assembly given by the PDB (e.g., 2HLA.pdb1.gz)

When a file downloads, the word "Success" will appear in the input box. Click on the box to return to the same PDB code or start typing in the box to enter a different PDB code. By default, the files download to your Desktop. To change this to your "Downloads" file, hit the "i" information button on the lower right of the widget. The widget will turn over and there is a dropdown menu to change the location of the downloads. Currently only Desktop and Downloads are allowed.

To install DashPDB:

• Click the download link above and save the file, DashPDB.zip
• Double-click on DashPDB.zip to unzip DashPDB
• Double-click the resulting file, DashPDB.wdgt, to install the widget to your dashboard
• The dashboard will open with the DashPDB widget highlighted in a gray box. Hit the button "Keep" to install DashPDB.
• Dashboard can be activated and deactivated by clicking the Dashboard icon in the Mac OS X dock or by pressing the F12 key
